We have always wanted to photograph an Indian or Bangladeshi wedding. A few weeks agi our dream came true. We had the honor of photographing a Turmeric Ceremony and a traditional Bangladeshi wedding!
The Turmeric Ceremony started off with the grooms family entering the venue with gifts for the bride’s side. Once in the venue, the bride’s side then gave the grooms family gifts in return. The couple sat on their beautiful and colorful throne while family members came up and applied turmeric paste on their faces and hands. This part of the ceremony was followed by dance performances, skits their friends made up, a newly wed questioner and seriously good traditional food. All our dreams came true as the evening was full of color, smells and tradition.
The wedding took place two days later in a huge venue in Long Island. 700 of their closest friends came out to celebrate their union. The couple are muslim so an Imam conducted the first part of their ceremony followed by the brides aunts who conducted the Bangladeshi part of it. The ceremony was followed by a cocktail hour and reception with old school hip hop all night long.
It was a night to remember, here are some of our favorite photos of the two days:
